about

In 2013 I was again amazed, as I have been before, by the clarity of these recordings from the ultra-primitive Canberra days. This despite the fact that the only sources I can locate at the mo are WMA files. The reason the songs nevertheless sound so crisp and punchy is that by luck we seemed to have excellent recording equipment and great sound people around us when it counted: cheers to Canberra legend Gup from Gup Sound, Chris Coolman from 2XX and also Darren Atkinson from the under-rated Sydney band Atticus.

Kristin Rees occasionally makes a 70 or so hertz buzz on her guitar, but the more I understand this kind of music the more I think of this as deliberate. There are also a couple of clicks in two of the songs. It's been so long I can't remember how, where and when these entered the soundscape. Might even be Hal Judge's kick arse digi delay i used on my voice. In those days people worried less about clicks since digital clipping was less common. Listening from that perspective even these seem to fit. Hope you enjoy this record of some crazy days.

Here you find good music and a record of a good rebellious time. The B-side of the lost single dates from slightly later in Melbourne where the band wound down. ... more
